Planning your Demo

Prev Next

Interactive demos are the future, helping you resonate with your audience at every stage of the buying journey. To build an impactful demo, careful planning is key.

Determine Your Goals

Before recording a demo, ask yourself:

Who is your audience? Use their language—avoid internal jargon.
What are the top 3-5 “aha” moments you want to showcase?
What’s your CTA? (e.g., Start Trial, Request Demo)
How many product chapters? (We recommend 8-12 steps max per chapter.)
Will your demo be gated? (e.g., lead form at the start, middle, or end.)

Choose Your Demo Type

Once you’ve outlined your goals, open the Storylane extension and click “Create New Demo.” You can record two types of demos:

📷 Screenshot Demo - Best for self-guided demos with no need for HTML edits.

💻 HTML Demo - Best for customized, editable demos that feel like a live product experience.

Best Practices for Impactful Demos

🎯 Keep it short8-12 steps is the sweet spot. For longer demos, use multiple chapters.

📖 Build a story, not just a demo – Guide viewers with a compelling narrative alongside the product flow.

🌟 Hook them early – Start with an engaging welcome message, image, or video.

📩 Capture leads – Track engagement by collecting emails or passing UTM parameters.

🚀 Strong CTA – Always include a clear, visible call-to-action (e.g., “Book a Call”).

🔄 Secondary CTA – Place NEXT & CTA buttons mid-demo to increase conversions.

🎨 Brand it! – Use batch update to match widget colors to your brand.

📊 Track performance – Generate multiple links to monitor demo engagement in different locations.

♻️ Reuse stories – Copy screens or duplicate demos for efficiency.

😆 Bored yet? That’s your second reminder: Keep it short! Your audience will thank you. 😉
