Adding Guides

Prev Next

Guides are essential for creating an interactive demo that helps viewers navigate and understand your product's benefits. These guides are automatically added when you create a screenshot demo with AI, but you also have the flexibility to modify and enhance them further.

Using ‘Record Screenshot’ for Guided Demos

If you’ve used the "Record Screenshot" feature from the extension, your demo likely already includes AI-generated guided steps. Great job! Now, you can enhance the demo by customizing, removing, adding, or rearranging steps to fit your needs.

Guided steps are the backbone of a product tour, helping your viewers understand the key features of your product in a structured way.

Types of Guides You Can Add

Here are the different types of guides you can use in your demo to create an engaging and informative experience:

Hotspots

  • What it is: Hotspots highlight important areas of your demo, drawing attention with a pulsating effect.

  • How it works: Viewers must click the hotspot or the entire guide to move to the next step.

  • Best for: Directing attention to specific features or actions in the demo.

Tooltips

  • What it is: Tooltips provide small text bubbles to explain elements or actions.

  • How it works: Use tooltips with backdrops to guide users through steps or explain key features. Viewers click the CTA (e.g., 'Next') to continue.

  • Best for: Explaining key actions or providing additional context at specific points.

Text Modal

  • What it is: Text modals display information in a pop-up window, which can contain instructions, descriptions, or summaries.

  • How it works: Use them at the beginning or end of your demo to introduce or conclude the experience.

  • Best for: Offering brief overviews or summarizing important details.

Media Modal

  • What it is: Media modals allow you to display images or videos within the demo.

  • How it works: Media modals help visualize concepts or offer short product demos. You can embed videos or images to enhance your message.

  • Best for: Adding visual context or showing personalized content like video introductions.

Lead Form

  • What it is: Lead forms capture user details within the demo to generate leads or collect data.

  • How it works: Place lead forms strategically—at the start, middle, or end of the demo. Integrate forms from platforms like HubSpot, Marketo, or Pardot, or capture leads via demo URL parameters.

  • Best for: Converting engaged viewers into potential customers.

Customizing Your Guides

Once you've added a guide, you can customize it to suit your needs. Here's how to tailor each guide:

  • Edit: Change the background color, adjust the beacon color (for hotspots), or add a spotlight to draw attention to specific areas.

  • Config: Add options like a close “X” button to allow viewers to exit the guide, a "previous" button to go back to the previous step, or a "next" button to proceed to the next step. You can also add a secondary CTA button, show a step number, or hide the guide’s arrow.

Copy and Paste Steps Between Chapters

You can easily copy steps from one chapter to another:

  1. Select the step you want to copy in the editor sidebar.

  2. Use Cmd + C (Mac) or Ctrl + C (Windows) to copy the step.

  3. Navigate to the desired chapter and paste the step using Cmd + V or Ctrl + V.
