# Creating a new agent

This is a quick guide on setting up a RepX chat agent for your website.

When you sign up for RepX, a short setup flow walks you through getting your agent ready to talk to visitors. There are the five steps:

* **Branding**
* **Training**
* **Qualification**
* **Email capture**
* **Additional goals**

The first two steps decide how RepX looks, sounds, and the content it uses to answer questions from users. The last three steps decide how it qualifies visitors and the meeting or signup goals it nudges them towards.

### Branding

This step makes sure RepX looks like it belongs on your website.

**Pick a color:** We detect your brand colors from your website and show them as options. Click one to use it. If you want a different color, use the color picker.

**Avatar:** This is who your visitors talk to. Click the edit icon on the avatar to choose from our library of video avatars.

**Name:** Give your agent a name. Visitors see this name when they chat with RepX.

**Voice:** Choose the voice your agent speaks in from the dropdown. Voices are listed with names, languages they support, and gender, so you can pick one that fits the avatar and your brand.

### Training

This step decides what RepX learns from, so it can answer visitors’ questions accurately.

We automatically find your website and help center and add them for you. If there are other domains you want RepX to learn from, add their URLs under Add another URL.

### Qualification, email capture, and additional goals

The next three steps set up how RepX qualifies visitors:

* the **intro message** RepX sends and speaks out to greet your visitors
* the **qualification questions** the agent asks
* if and when it should ask for a **visitor’s email**
* if it should nudge visitors towards a **meeting or a trial signup**

{% hint style="info" %}
**Everything you configure in these steps is saved to your default playbook.** You can edit these settings later anytime from the Playbooks page. To learn how each of these settings work in detail, please read [Qualification behavior and goals](https://docs.storylane.io/repx-chat/qualification-behavior/qualification-questions).

### Changing these settings later

Everything you set up here can be edited anytime from the Storylane dashboard:

* **Branding:** Go to **Settings** > **Basics** to change your agent’s color, avatar, name, and voice.
 * **Interaction mode:** You can also choose how RepX responds to visitors.
 * In **video mode**, visitors see the avatar's video and can chat over text or click **Talk** to speak with it live. Talking only needs microphone access, never the visitor’s camera.
 * In **voice mode**, the avatar appears as a voice orb, with the same text and Talk options.
 * In **text chat**, the whole conversation happens over text. The RepX agent's avatar does not show up.
 * You can also switch to a custom avatar from here. Custom avatars show up only in text chat.
* **Training:** Go to Training in the left navigation to add or remove the pages RepX learns from. Learn more about Playbooks. Learn more about how you can train your RepX agent here.
* **Qualification, email capture, and additional goals:** These are saved to your **default playbook**. Go to Playbooks to edit them, or create new playbooks for specific pages. Learn more about Playbooks and how qualification behavior works here.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.storylane.io/repx-chat/setting-up-repx/creating-a-new-agent.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
